Here's What I've Learned After 10 Years in Babywearing

After 10 years in babywearing, one of the biggest things I’ve learned is that for many parents it isn’t a luxury - it’s a necessity.

When I had three boys under three, babywearing was simply how I got through daily life. I needed my hands free while still meeting the needs of my baby, and that experience shaped how I see babywearing today.

Over the years I’ve also seen how transformative the right carrier can be. Many parents think babywearing isn’t for them, when often they just haven’t found something that fits well or feels comfortable. When it works, it gives parents freedom, confidence and a way to meet their baby’s needs while still getting through the day.

Running a babywearing business has also shown me that parents are often overwhelmed by choices and conflicting advice. A big part of what we do is helping simplify that and giving parents the confidence to carry their babies safely.

Here at Chekoh, we offer free online education and consult video calls.

Safety is another important part of the journey. In Australia there are currently no specific safety standards for baby carriers, so we’ve chosen to test our carriers to U.S. safety standards and continually evolve our designs as new research and guidance around safe babywearing emerges.

Ultimately, what stands out most after a decade is seeing how empowering babywearing can be - helping parents feel capable, connected, and supported during one of the most intense stages of life.

What I’ve learned from 10 years of babywearing

  1. For me, babywearing started as a necessity, not a trend.
When I had three boys under three, babywearing wasn’t something I discovered through research or parenting philosophy - it was simply how I managed everyday life. I needed my hands free to care for my older children while still meeting the needs of my baby. That experience shaped how I see babywearing today: not as a luxury, but as a practical tool that can make parenting more manageable.

  2. The right carrier can completely change a parent’s experience.
Over the years I’ve seen many parents believe babywearing “isn’t for them,” when often they just haven’t found the right fit. Comfort, support and thoughtful design make all the difference. When a carrier fits well, it transforms babywearing from something frustrating into something parents rely on every day.

  3. Parents are often overwhelmed and just want clarity and confidence.
There’s so much conflicting advice online and so many products to choose from. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through my business is that parents don’t necessarily need more options - they need guidance and reassurance so they can feel confident in how they carry their baby. That is why we offer free online education and our inbox is always open to any questions!

  4. Babywearing solves real everyday parenting challenges.
Parents often turn to babywearing because their baby only sleeps on them, they’re navigating reflux or clingy phases, or they simply need to get things done while keeping their baby close. It’s a practical solution that helps parents move through daily life while still responding to their baby’s needs.

  5. It can be incredibly empowering for parents.
One of the most rewarding things I’ve seen over the past decade is the shift in parents when they realise they can soothe their baby, move freely and still feel connected. Babywearing often gives parents a sense of calm and confidence during a time that can otherwise feel overwhelming.

  6. Safety and responsibility matter - especially in an industry without local standards.
One of the biggest challenges in Australia is that there are currently no specific safety standards for baby carriers. Because of that, we’ve chosen to hold ourselves to higher benchmarks by testing our carriers to U.S. safety standards and continually refining our designs as new information around safe babywearing emerges. Product development, safety and education have to evolve alongside what we learn. For added peace of mind, we are also endorsed by the Australian Babywearing Association and our products comply with best practice positioning.
