Concept & Moodboard

Before the camera shutter clicks, a photoshoot begins with a well-defined concept and a thoughtfully curated moodboard.
What is the overall vibe and more importantly, what do we think you'll love?
For the Des Fleurs Collection, the vintage white base and cerulean blue floral motif print evoked the simplicity of French florals, fresh pastries in the morning and barefoot dancing in the Euro Spring time.
Below is an example of one of the moodboards we used to conceptualise Des Fleurs and it's dreamy, feminine and stripped back aesthetic.
We decide on everything from location, clothing, hair and makeup, pose inspiration and lighting.
Mama Model
With our vision in mind, we create a model shortlist. We only work with real Mama's and Papa's here at Chekoh, which can sometimes be difficult as we often need newborns for our Baby Wrap Carriers and Swaddles anndddd that can be hard to predict!
For the Des Fleurs shoot, we had the beautiful Nyamuoch (and baby Chieng) in mind and luckily for us, the timing worked perfectly!
Location, Location
Next we choose a space. Whether this is outdoors or a local studio, we have been on many Chekoh roadtrips getting the destination just right.
Based on the moodboard you saw above, we were hoping for an indoor studio with large windows, natural sunlight and raw wooden floors. With this in mind, we opted for the beautiful, inspiring, wabi-sabi Yatoma Studio.
Shoot Day!
When everything is all set in stone, it's shoot day time! Our go-to photographer Kate hits the road with us and we set out to execute the images on our shotlist, all while capturing BTS, video and the odd polaroid and camcorder vid too!
Shoot days are the best - tunes are pumping (for Des Fleurs we rocked a French playlist to get us inspired!), snacks are flowing and the end result is just magic.
Everything is Content
After a short while, we receive all of the images and camcorder footage at Chekoh HQ. We ooh and ahh and sift through to find our favourites to showcase on the website product pages and throughout our social channels (did you know we're on TikTok now too?).
From conceptualisation and moodboarding to model selection, executing the shoot, and content creation, every step contributes to crafting a compelling visual narrative. The next time you come across a Chekoh photo, you'll know the journey it took to get there and hopefully love them as much as we do.
