How to Tie Your Chekoh Wrap

A great Wrap starts with the right fit. Your Chekoh Wrap should feel snug and supportive before baby is placed inside — think fitted T-shirt, with no loose or twisted fabric.

Follow these steps to create a secure, comfortable base ready for baby.

01

Find the centre of your wrap.

Locate the centre label of the wrap and place it high under your bust.

02

Cross the wrap behind your back.

Take each side of the wrap around your waist, cross them behind your back and bring each side up and over the opposite shoulder.

Keep the fabric flat and untwisted.

As you bring the wrap over your shoulders, spread the fabric so it sits comfortably and ensure there are no twists or flips.

03

Tighten the wrap.

Take both shoulder passes and feed them underneath the centre panel at the front of your body.

Working through any slack, pull down on each shoulder pass until the wrap feels firm and supportive against your body. The tighter and more secure the wrap is now, the more supportive it will be once baby is inside.

04

Wrap around your body and tie securely.

Cross both lengths of fabric over each other at the front of your body, keeping the fabric flat and untwisted.

Take both ends around your waist and secure them with a double knot at the front, side or back — wherever feels most comfortable.

05

Your wrap is now ready for baby.

Before placing baby inside, check that the wrap feels snug like a fitted T-shirt, the fabric is spread evenly with no twists, and there is no excess slack.

Positioning Baby in Your Chekoh Wrap

Once your Wrap is tied snugly and securely, you’re ready to position baby. Correct positioning helps support baby’s natural posture, hips and developing spine while keeping them comfortably close to you.

Baby should always be carried upright, high and close enough to kiss, with their face visible and airways completely clear.

01

Place baby into the first shoulder pass.

Hold baby upright, chest-to-chest and high on your body.
Place them into the shoulder pass closest to your chest first.
Keeping one hand securely on baby, guide their first leg through the shoulder pass and spread the fabric from knee to knee, supporting their bottom and thigh.

02

Check both shoulder passes.

Guide baby’s other leg through the second pass, then spread the fabric fully across their bottom and from knee to knee.

Make sure each layer of fabric is spread smoothly high across baby’s back, and low across their bottom and thighs, with no bunching or twisted fabric.

03

Bring up the outer panel.

Locate the horizontal middle panel and gently pull it up and over baby’s legs, bottom and back to create the third supportive layer.

Pull this up high to the back of baby's neck.

04

Create baby’s ergonomic position.

Gently tuck baby’s pelvis (hold behind the back of baby's thighs and gently roll their groin up towards their belly button) so their bottom settles deeply into the wrap, with their knees comfortably higher than their bottom to create a supported ‘M’ position.

Check baby’s knee-to-knee support.

Ensure the fabric reaches from the back of one knee to the back of the other, without extending beyond the knee crease.

05

Complete your fit + safety check.

Baby should be upright, high and close enough to kiss, with their face visible and their nose and mouth completely unobstructed.

Check their chin is off their chest and regularly monitor their position and breathing while being carried.

Removing Baby from Your Chekoh Wrap

Baby can be removed without completely untying your wrap. The most important thing is to keep one hand securely supporting baby at all times as you gently release each layer of fabric.

01

Keep one hand securely on baby.

Support baby firmly against your chest throughout the entire removal.

02

Lower the outer panel.

With your free hand, gently pull the horizontal outer panel down and behind baby’s knees.

03

Release the shoulder passes.

Gently loosen and move each shoulder pass away from baby, while continuing to support them securely.

04

Lift baby up and out.

Once the fabric is clear, support baby under their arms and body and gently lift them up and onto your shoulder.

05

Release baby’s legs from the wrap.

Carefully guide each leg free from the remaining fabric while keeping baby securely supported against you.

Wrap Troubleshooting + Safety Tips

A few small adjustments can make a big difference to the comfort, support and safety of your wrap. If baby feels too low, the wrap feels loose, or their positioning doesn’t look quite right, use these simple checks to fine-tune your fit.

01

Baby sitting too low or wrap feels loose?

Your wrap should feel snug and supportive, holding baby high and close to your body.

If baby is sitting too low or beginning to slump, remove baby and retighten your wrap. Lift any slack up and over your shoulders, then feed it through and underneath the front waistband before retying securely.

02

Check baby’s pelvic position

Baby should sit deeply into the wrap in a comfortable, supported ‘M’ position, with their bottom lower than their knees.

Gently tuck baby’s pelvis, rolling their hips towards their belly button to help settle their bottom into the wrap and bring their knees into the correct position.

03

Check for knee-to-knee support

Spread each shoulder pass evenly across baby’s bottom and thighs, ensuring the fabric provides support from the back of one knee to the back of the other.

Avoid bunching the fabric underneath baby’s bottom.

04

Keep baby’s face visible

Baby’s face should remain visible and unobstructed at all times. Never allow fabric to cover baby’s face, nose or mouth.

Regularly check that baby’s chin is off their chest and their airways remain completely clear.

05

If baby falls asleep

Continue to monitor baby closely. Make sure their face remains visible and unobstructed, their airways are clear and their chin remains off their chest.

As shown in the video, you can gently position their head to the side and use the wrap for additional head support, without covering their face or restricting their airway.
